There’s something so unique and endearing about tortoiseshell cats that you can’t help but love. From their glorious coats to their loveable tortietude, tortoiseshell cats are a favorite among many cat lovers across the globe. For one cute tortie named Lena out of Nova Scotia, she landed herself the perfect forever home with a kindhearted lady who has a soft spot for black and orange kitty cats. For this first-time cat mom, she is grateful to have found such a wonderful kitty and couldn’t imagine life without her in it. The two of them are the perfect match, and it’s clear to see that Lena isn’t looking back on shelter life now that she’s landed a wonderful home where she’s adored—just as she should be. So, everyone, get to know a little about this pretty little head-turner you’ll be sure to love.
How did Lena come into your life?
I was never able to get a cat until I got my own place in June 2019, and thought I’d wait half a year to figure out my new budget. But one night in July I learnt of the tortie colouring (I always loved black cats and orange cats) and fell in love. I googled “torties” and my city and a shelter had a tortie “Bellatrix,” and her little writeup made her sound like the perfect match for me (couch potato but loving), and me for her. I put an application in that night! I had to meet her foster mom and her, then have a home visit from the shelter…and then she was mine!
How did Lena Tonks get her cute name? (I would love to learn her nicknames as well!)
Her full name is Helena Tonks and she’s named after two characters in Harry Potter — Helena Ravenclaw and Nymphadora Tonks. But usually just call her Lena, sometimes Lena Tonks. I often call her Stinky Gurl, Squeaky, and Lena-Bo-Beena as well.
What is her personality like?
She is very cautious but loves attention from anyone — she may just take a while to warm up. She likes to observe things and is always following me around, especially when I go into the kitchen. She likes to scream for cheese in there (her favourite), and she talks a lot especially in the morning or when I get home from work. Lena hides from new noises in the building or new people, but once she observes that they aren’t a threat, she is much more calm.
How would your rate her tortietude?
Maybe 7 out of 10. She is strong-willed and will let you know if she’s annoyed or wants something, but she isn’t physically mean. Just sassy! She always looks angry though.
What are her favorite hobbies?
Lena loves to go out on the balcony in the summer and lay in the sun. When stuck inside, she likes to nap and stare out of her window in the bedroom. Sometimes she gets zoomies and enjoys her laser pointer and pom pom balls. If I’m watching tv or playing a video game, she is usually on my lap or right beside me.
Does she have any cat or dog housemates at home?
Lena is an only child, and is also my first cat!
What’s something special you’d like for people to know about Lena?
Lena is a travelling cat! Last Christmas I couldn’t find anyone reliable to watch her while I went to my parents, so I took her on my flights across the country. She had to stay in her carrier for 12 hours! But as soon as we got to my parents she got out to explore and stretch her little legs. This was the first time she met her grand-paw-rents too and wasn’t scared of them at all. I think she became a lot braver on this trip, and she also had to practice jumping higher so she could get up to the window ledge in the basement. I was very proud of her!
I want to give a special “thank you” to Lena’s human for allowing me to share her heartwarming story and images with all of the Cattitude Daily readers. For more on this pretty girl, be sure to check her out here on Instagram.
